Russia's 'Double Attack' on Ukraine, Continuous Cyber Attack, Hundreds of Computers Targeted
Russia Ukraine News: Russia has launched a double attack on Ukraine. On the one hand, while the armies of both the countries are face to face, Ukraine is constantly being attacked by cyber attacks. Hundreds of Ukrainian computers have been targeted in recent attacks
Russia has attacked Ukraine. In one way, while Russia is conducting military attacks on Ukraine, on the other hand it has also started cyber attacks. A dangerous software attacking hundreds of computers has emerged in Ukraine.
According to cyber security firm ESTE, this software has attacked many computers in Ukraine. In a statement posted on Twitter, the company has said that this data erasing program has been installed in hundreds of machines in the country.
Preparations going on for several months
Preparation for this attack has been done for the last several months. Vikram Thakur of cyber security firm Symantec has told that this software is spread on a large scale. He said, 'We have seen its activity throughout Ukraine and Latvia.' Who is behind this attack, it is not clear at all. However, Russia is being suspected at first sight.
Russia accused
Russia has been accused of cyber attacks many times before. However, Russia has denied these allegations. Cyber security experts are investigating software targeting Ukraine. They uploaded a copy of it to Alphabet's crowdsourced cybersecurity site VirusTotal, to test its capabilities. Researchers found that this software is digitally signed through a certificate.
This certificate has been issued to Hermetica Digital Ltd. Since the operating system uses code-signing to check the start of any software. In this way the certificate is designed to avoid anti-virus protection. According to Brain Kime, VP of American cyber security firm ZeroFox, getting a certificate like this is not a big deal. The address of the company in whose name this certificate has been issued is one year old and it does not even have any website.
Ukraine closes airspace
At the same time, Ukraine has also closed its airspace. Ukraine fears that Russia can target flights coming to them and cyber-attacks on them. Ukraine State Air Traffic Service said the airspace has been closed for civil flights due to the risks.
